Description:

The MH Group is seeking talented and compassionate Special Education Teachers who will be responsible for delivering high-quality, individualized instruction and support to students with disabilities, ensuring compliance with the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) regulations. Teachers will collaborate with general education staff, families, and related service providers to develop and implement effective Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) that support student success across academic, behavioral, and social-emotional domains.

Key Responsibilities:

Instructional Support & IEP Implementation:

- Design and deliver specialized instruction in accordance with students' IEPs using evidence-based practices.

- Adapt and modify the curriculum to accommodate the diverse learning needs of students with disabilities.

- Collaborate with general education teachers to support inclusive practices and co-teaching where appropriate.

- Implement appropriate accommodations and modifications for students in general education and special education settings.

- Conduct ongoing progress monitoring, collect data, and provide updates on student performance toward IEP goals.

Compliance & Documentation:

- Develop compliant, measurable IEPs and participate in IEP team meetings in accordance with Massachusetts DESE timelines and regulations (603 CMR 28.00).

- Maintain accurate and confidential student records, including progress reports, assessment data, service logs, and communication notes.

- Administer formal and informal assessments, including standardized testing and curriculum-based measures, to inform instructional decisions and eligibility evaluations.

- Ensure all services are delivered in accordance with IEPs and regulatory requirements.

Collaboration & Communication:

- Serve as the case manager for assigned students; coordinate services and maintain communication with families, service providers, and outside agencies.

- Participate in student support team meetings, multidisciplinary evaluations, and re-evaluation processes.

- Consult with related service providers (e.g., speech therapists, occupational therapists, behavior analysts) to integrate support into instruction.

- Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding academic progress, behavior, and goals.

Behavioral & Social-Emotional Support:

- Implement behavioral intervention plans (BIPs) and support positive behavior strategies in both special education and general education settings.

- Promote student self-advocacy and independence by integrating executive functioning and self-regulation strategies.

- Support social-emotional learning through individualized instruction and group interventions, aligned with Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) or Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support (PBIS) frameworks.

Key Skills & Competencies:

- Proficiency in writing IEPs and managing compliance documentation

- Ability to use data to inform instruction and demonstrate student progress

- Experience implementing differentiated instruction and Universal Design for Learning (UDL)

- Familiarity with Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) frameworks

- Technological literacy, including use of assistive technology and educational platforms (e.g., PowerSchool, Google Classroom, IEP software)

Required Qualifications:

- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related field (Master’s degree preferred)

- Massachusetts DESE licensure in Moderate Disabilities (PreK-8 or 5-12) or Severe Disabilities (as appropriate)

- SEI Endorsement or willingness to obtain within mandated timelines

- Demonstrated knowledge of Massachusetts IEP process and DESE special education regulations (603 CMR 28.00)

- At least 1-2 years of experience teaching students with disabilities in inclusive or self-contained settings (preferred)

- Strong written and oral communication skills; bilingual ability a plus
