Emergency Medicine Physician Bon Secours Southside Medical Center Emergency Department

• ED Volume: 46,000
• ED Beds: 42
• Staffing Model:
  • 8-10 hour physician shifts
  • 8-12 hour APP shifts
• EMR: Epic
• 6-10% of the ED population is pediatrics
• 15-22% admission rate (combined true hospital admits and observation admits)
• USACS hospitalists admit 80% of the admitted patients in the hospital
• Two Sonosite machines in ED
• GlideScope with pediatric/adult blades and flexible fiberoptic scope attachment
• Ultrasound-guided IVs and splints done by RNs and techs

• Three physicians, 3 APPs round at a time, overnight in-house nocturnist is responsible for admissions, codes, rapid responses, tele-nocturnist covers floor pages
